This was a hard book to read at first. I am not into western stories. After I got past the first few chapters, it was pretty good. Some of it was kind hard to understand because it had phrases like you would use in poetry class at school and I was definately not liking that part of the book. But overall it was a good book.
I was really not liking the arranged marriage part between Tamsen and Ambrose. I was glad that Jesse helped her to escape after her stepfather killed her mother. I thought that Jesse and Tamsen made a good pair and was suited to each other. Even after they discovered who they really were, they just took it in stride.
I was glad that in the end that Ambrose wound up being a good guy unlike Tamsen's step father. And that the grandfather wasn't as bad as his son. I think in the end the family would get along and get to know each other after all the years that had past.
